MOVE (Mobilize, Organize, Vote, Empower) Texas innovates democracy for our generation. We work daily to build a more just and representative future that empowers inspiring new leaders to keep making Texas better. Our vision is to build the political power of young people to transform democracy in Texas and beyond. While we are known as MOVE Texas, we are comprised of two organizations.


  • MOVE Texas Action Fund (501(c)(4) is the political arm of MOVE Texas, an organization dedicated to building the political power of young people in underrepresented communities through civic engagement, leadership development, and issue advocacy.

  • MOVE Texas Civic Fund (501(c)(3) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, grassroots organization building power in underrepresented youth communities through civic education, leadership development, and issue advocacy.


MOVE Texas operates throughout Texas and primarily in San Antonio, Laredo, Seguin, San Marcos, Austin, Houston, College Station, Fort Worth, Denton, and Dallas. We plan to continue growing and serving other cities and counties beyond these areas.

Job Summary


The Electoral Canvasser engages with the community in direct voter contact by registering voters, gathering pledges to vote, disseminating voter guides, and supporting our electoral goals. Their primary role is to initiate conversations with our base to increase civic engagement and voter turnout. They support voter registration and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) initiatives. The Electoral Canvasser would report directly to the Temporary Field Manager and/or the Electoral Manager and work alongside the Civic Engagement Division, Issue Advocacy Division, and Data Division to meet the community's needs.

What You'll DO

  • Electoral Division Support

    • ​​Serve as regional voter registration and engagement mobilizer to advance local civic initiatives and participation.

    • Maintain accurate records of community interactions, pledge to vote cards, volunteer interests, and feedback through data form submissions and daily reporting.

    • Adhere to policies, processes, procedures, guidelines, principles, and systems established in the MOVE Texas Team Manual and all Departmental Handbooks and documents.

    • Performs other duties as assigned by direct and indirect supervisors related to supporting short-term project management and execution while performing other tasks as needed.


  • Regional Voter Registration Advancement
    • Execute assigned field plans to meet weekly goals, maintain your required hours, and give each area of your geographic territory the attention it needs.

    • Engage with potential voters through door-to-door canvassing, block walking, attending community events, answering questions to the best of your abilities, and providing resources to support informed decision-making.

    • Meet young people where they’re at, in classrooms, on campuses, and in other youth spaces such as campuses, classrooms, community events, and local businesses to get them registered to vote and invite them to join our movement.

    • Maintain a respectful reputation for MOVE Texas by using messaging that follows our mission, tracks our visions, and exemplifies our values.

    • Participation in organizational days of action for National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), Deadline Day, get-out-the-vote (GOTV) initiatives, Election Day, and other civic holidays and days of action that advance our organizing goals.

    • Become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar in relevant counties.


  • Organizing Program Participation
    • Work collaboratively with the Organizing Department to execute regional plans to increase voter registration and mobilize voters to build power for elections, legislative sessions, and issue campaigns.

    • Support volunteer recruitment and engagement.

    • Fulfill reporting expectations to complete grant requests and proposals.

    • Collaborate with partner organizations to coordinate voter registration and get-out-the-vote days of action.

    • Responsible for adhering to all Data Division processes, procedures, protocols, and guidelines, especially those that support program and campaign activities.


  • Organizational Accountability
    • ​​Track and manage promotional materials and supplies provided by MOVE Texas, including but not limited to clipboards, pens, forms, and a table.

    • Attend training, workshops, and community calls to broaden electoral and advocacy skills through coaching from leaders and experts within and outside of MOVE Texas

    • Support in the field during organizational days of action.

    • Maintain compliance for 501(c)3/501(c)4 activities.

    • Demonstrate the ability to apply skills and knowledge to competently perform job duties and assignments.

You’re interested in learning more about local political landscapes, including progressive movement issues and the unique barriers to democratic participation in Texas. You’re ready to travel frequently across your designated region to support team members and organizational priorities.

Our Wishlist (the pluses)


  • Experience coordinating volunteers or program participants.

  • Experience as a volunteer deputy registrar or paid canvasser position in Texas or other Southern states.

  • Experience working within the Texas progressive ecosystem or social justice organizations or non-profits in other Southern states.

  • Spanish language skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully navigate issues related to race, identity, and equity and be deeply committed to advancing the values of equity and inclusion.


Position Details

This full-time, temporary, hourly, non-exempt position is available from the time of hire till November 2024. This position requires the employee to reside in Texas. The Electoral Canvasser is a hybrid position (90% in-person, 10% virtual) that requires reliable access to transportation, wifi, and a dedicated working space. Regional travel will vary based on organizational needs. The employee is responsible for maintaining valid travel documentation. This position is paid $20.00 hourly with a regular commitment of 20 hours per week unless pre-approved by the Electoral Manager. This non-supervisory position reports directly to the Electoral Manager. This is not a union-eligible position.



Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Occasional periods of sitting at a desk and constantly operating on a computer.

  • Frequently walks, stands, and moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for in-person events.

  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions for in-person events.

  • Frequently moves throughout the community and inside and across buildings to access meetings or to conduct site visits for in-person work.

  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with coworkers and partners, ability to complete tasks in situations that have time constraints.
